Milestones

Yet another milestone in my despair:

Dan's second last day at the firm is today. Oh no, not his second last day as in, tomorrow is his last day. No no, it is his SECOND last day at the old D. , from his SECOND tour of duty at the firm. Yes, true, that his second stint was always only temporary, but from my standpoint, sad nonetheless. Props to you Dan, you have beaten me...again...

Update on the Wonky (GIMP) Knee

After a week of pain, daddy came home and gave me some drugs. Felt good the very next day, and didn't have to use the drugs for the rest of the week. So we'll chalk this up to an inflammed tendon from overuse (i.e. OLD AGE).

Update on the update
And....no sooner than posting this, the knee is flaring up again....nice....shooting pains...

Ups and Downs?

This year could potentially be a year of career ups and downs for me. Take for instance, the golf course. Career year - posted a career low of 80 this year. Previous career best was probably around a 90 taking into account improper scoring (read: generous) in previous years. Tennis - career low record of 2-4324954 (or something like 8). However, we ended up on a high note, taking the final match of the season in a THRILLING 7-6 third set tie break, where we came back from 2-6 (4 match points) in the tiebreak to take it 9-7. If there was any kind of an audience (which there wasn't), they would have been on their feet. Then there was roller hockey this year, and how we ended off the year. I'm still steaming about how we ended up out of the playoffs, so if you want to hear the story, ask Jean or Carlos. STUPID. just STUPID.

However, the knee is starting to feel the effects of the long summer on the grass and pavement and "sport court". I now sport a permanent gimp (no, not gimp mask). A trip to the orthopaedic surgeon is in order to check it out. It's been nagging for some time (since that ball hockey game in Uni, where i tore the ligament, and kept playing - ahhh stupid stupid child...), so i'm not optimistic about this. Perhaps my dad and I will have matching fake knees by year end.

So, who's up for a round this weekend....

Apple Crumble?

"Are you happy are you satisfied?
How long can you stand the heat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat look out

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust"

Today is a different day, and today there is a different quitter. And the quitter is not me. The EY world is crumbling around me. Saw it coming last year, but like a person looking up at an avalanche, i can do nothing but watch it come closer until it sucks me under. How quickly the dominoes fall once they pick up a little momentum.

Preggies?

Today I was compared to a woman in labour.

Another buddy quit today. Before me. She was my junior when i was a first year senior.

I was talking to another friend saying it was sad. I wondered aloud: "when is it going to be MY turn??"

She responded: " it will be soon, very soon"

Followed by: "that's what they always say to women in labour too"

Nice nice. Only 33 more years til mandatory retirement....soon very soon.

Last Man Standing

It is Friday, and I have done 3 hours of chargeable work this week, despite probably actually having about 50 to do. Jay Kim is close, but not quite at my level of inefficiency, coming in at 6 hours. Nerdia has fallen off the face of the planet, probably meaning that she is working overtime like a MOFO.

Based on my unofficial research, we appear to be the only three people who are still in "Phase 1" of our career cycles, as we remain at our original respective employers in public accounting. Actually, I would say Nerdia doesn't even really count, given that she was BDO NEO for awhile during school.

The rest of you either have moved onto other areas of the firm where you CHOOSE to be, have gone into industry, or have come from small firms to bigger firms as a career move and jumping block (I sold Smiley Mike out for $1000 - haha, eat it buddy). Some of you have even returned to public accounting for a second stint ("I can do ANYTHING for two months")

There have already been many efforts in the past while to extricate all of us from our precarious positions in public accounting, but to no avail. So I am starting a survey to hopefully spur the last ones on to success in our exit plans.

As we all know, survey's breed gambling, so make your pick now - WHO WILL BE THE LAST MAN STANDING? ME or the Seoul Man.

Winners will get a free drink from me at my going away party (but that might not be for another few years, at my pace)

In my biased viewpoint, I think the easy money is on Seoul Man, the most apathetic guy on the face of the earth. But you never know, one day he's going to explode and blow up the office.... But hey, what the hell do i know. In fact, what the hell do you know? You voted me as the person most likely to leave after qualifying!

Who will be the Last Man Standing?

Jason "Apathetic Seoul Man" Kim

"God must hate me
He cursed me for eternity
God must hate me
Maybe you should pray for me
I'm breaking down and you can't save me
I'm stuck in hell
And I wanna go home"

...I mean...everything is GREAT!
